Where To Keep The Outboard For Racing?

Recommended Posts

New owner of a J-70. I'm sure this will be obvious once I go to a big regatta, but I'm wondering what people do to store the outboard? On the sole below the companionway? Slide it back behind the keel somehow? In a bag? Make a bracket?

Thanks in advance!

Polk- storing the outboard is done by virtually all boats by placing them in protective bags, then placing it on one side of keel.  Place gas or in case of electric outboard no the other side of keel.

We have a Torqueedo, which breaks down into 4 parts.  We store the shaft using the bulkhead located at the aft end of the keel.  A teak block glued to the back of the bulkhead works well.  The battery and control handle go along side the keel.

Has the previous answer(below)changed now that there is an interior mount available?

My crew wants to mount the engine forward the mast column. I still think low and bagged is best?

Thanks,

I have a Torqueedo and we fasten the shaft on the available interior mount (just forward of the compression post). The battery goes on the floor under the step.  Handle in the bucket.  Seems to work well; no method is ideal.
